THESE are the times that I’m ashamed to be a fat black girl.

I say “GET IT GWARL!!” Besides, it’s typically dark in the club. So who’s instigatin’ azz blew her cover!?!? Let her make love up in the club, dayum!! Just mind ya biznesss!!! /Will Smiff
This is not a good look for anyone, sorry. Did she not feel the breeze?

 FUCK BREEZES!!!! LOL!
Nah, she was too busy getting her groove on and fucking in the corner (you jealous?) to self-consciously tug on her skirt every 5 seconds. Get over it.

^RIGHT! Cuz Lawdt knows I dance like a proud whore at the [big girl] clubs! You can’t tell me NUFFIN!!! *sings* Precious memories, oh how they linger!!!!!
*blinks blankly* this…is really being justified right now. oh. ok.

 Yup Dee, I said it.
*rubs temples* okay Keena Beena.
HOWEVER. This is indefensible at ANY size. SOMEONE had to say it. Perhaps it’s an unflattering photo. But there’s some assumptions being taken with the commentary of this photo:
“She’s getting her love on in the club. You mad?”: What in his body language (in this snapshot) is indicative that he is responding to her with mutual attraction in an affectionate manner?
“She was too busy to be self-consciously tugging on her skirt.”: then she probably shouldn’t have worn it. Again this is not size specific. I would (and do) say the same thing to any size of any gender.
I mean honestly though, I’m not going to down her because that would be oppressive. Is it my cup of tea? No. But where is the line between personal responsibility in self-representation and individual freedom of expression drawn? I’m all for size acceptance and loving yourself blase, blase. But more importantly, I’m all about wearing what flatters you and your body and always being cognizant that not every clothing choice available will do that.
Commence to calling me a hater.

Dee you’re my girl but no one no one ever has any responsibility to make you comfortable with how they present themselves.
No one anywhere has a responsibility to anyone to wear “flattering” clothes.
No one.
No one has a responsibility to behave in a way that anyone but they themselves feel good about.
In asking for positive representation you are in effect asking to make a monolith of women or Black women or fat women which is not awesome and never going to happen.
Part of not only bodily autonomy is personal autonomy to do as we please when we please.
Maybe -you- shouldn’t wear that outfit because it would make you uncomfortable.
Clearly this person is doing just fine. Aside from some jackass taking their picture without (most likely) permission which is a bullshit move.

And this is where I part ways with the “Acceptance” communities. Condoning nonsense in the name of individual freedom of expression. I’ll maintain my lane of fighting injustice in race in gender because this right here? Nah. Not bout that life.

So why do you get to make the rules of what is and isn’t acceptable? Why do you get to decide what’s good or not good for someone else?
I’m not saying you can’t do as you please with your own self. I’m more interested in supporting autonomy even when someone does something I don’t agree with.
Would I wear that outfit no. I think the skirt is ugly.
Does that mean she can’t wear the outfit, no it doesn’t.
I don’t get what the issue with that is. Not just with you Dee but in general.

I just want to bold and restate my first statement:

I mean honestly though, I’m not going to down her because that would be oppressive. Is it my cup of tea? No. But where is the line between personal responsibility in self-representation and individual freedom of expression drawn? I’m all for size acceptance and loving yourself blase, blase. But more importantly, I’m all about wearing what flatters you and your body and always being cognizant that not every clothing choice available will do that.

So I’ve clearly stated I won’t down her because that’s oppressive. I’ve stated that I’m curious about where the line between personal responsibility in self-representation and individual freedom of expression is drawn, which of course is asking the SAME question you asked me (what gives one the right to define what is acceptable for another). Lastly, I’ve self-defined what is acceptable for me, not necessarily applicable to others, which is why I’ve used “I” instead of “you.”
The issue, for me personally, is much more than finding it grossly unattractive.  The condoning of this by communities of acceptance will not be conducive to the fight for mainstream social acceptance. Which, if I’m correct, is the ultimate goal of size acceptance communities. The average person, irrespective of size, would take one look at the photo and say “this is unflattering” and the cycle of fat hate targeting begins anew. Is this not detrimental to the supposed cause?
But, *shrugs*, it ain’t that deep right?

Actually it is that deep to me Dee.
This statement you made to begin with:
HOWEVER. This is indefensible at ANY size. SOMEONE had to say it. Perhaps it’s an unflattering photo. But there’s some assumptions being taken with the commentary of this photo:
-
The bolded part is where you initially were downing her. That’s what I take issue. Also when you say you’re all for acceptance but- is where I have a problem.
I suppose it would have been more clear to me had you said, I wouldn’t ever do this rather than saying this is indefensible.
And as I said, no one has any obligation to be aesthetically pleasing to anyone. that’s a big part of FA/ and size acceptance in general. A very large point.
