I realize you’re young but seriously before you ever engage with someone especially a person of color who is talking about racism, first thing you need to do is understand that the person (me in this case) might be very loving but love will does not always help me or people like me survive.

If nothing else understand that no matter what you or I wish for, the reality is that will not solve anything.

If you want to show how loving you are, give people space to talk. Learn when to say, oh shit that’s awful. Or ask questions before deciding that someone is wrong.

And for the love of all fluffy things and cute kittens, don’t ever invoke MLK that way to people of color. It really tends to make us incredibly angry.

Also, I did not grow up with a hippy family but, I am an extremely loving person. I love people and want them to be okay but not at the expense of my own survival.
